.....to start sharing some of views on my blog!
and i want to start with Food Additives! I have just posted this..
"Hello form Australia, I have been reading MckMama for a while, it is such a great blog! I am really interested to know about the use of food additives in your country. This is something i have been thinking about since i saw the picture of the wonderful Rainbow Cake.
Let me explain my interest......Here in Australia our food standards authority does NOT protect us from harmful additives in many of the foods and drinks that are available to us, particularly to our children. There is a growing movement over here to change this fact but many of the food colourings, flavouings and preservatives are available and in many foods....i have to read every label. It is proven that colourings such as Blue(labelled 133 here) is a suspected carcenogen and linked to hyperactivity and asthma. It is actually banned in 7 countries but is used here in all sorts of things.......chocolate biscuits can actually have no chocolate but a variety of additives to make it look like chocolate. This is just one example but the list is massive our most worring list of over 60 contains the numbers 100,120,122,129,249,282,466,1201...... i could go on.
I could go on, the subject is very important to me (can you tell!!) I am raising 2 boys one who has hyperactivity, attention and social issues, since eliminating as many of the nasty additives from out diet as we can his issues have lessened, but it is about long term health too.
I am truly interested to know how you, as mothers in America are protected..or not by your authorities and if additives are an issue for you??"

on one of my favourite American blogs MckMama at the forum.
As this is a subject that i feel strongly about i really want to know how Mums in other countries deal with additives, if they are aware of the problems linked to certain additives and if their authorities are more protective than ours. i know that things are really changing in the UK which is great but we are so much slower here.
So i am going to put some links to sites that i have used as resources, if anyone trips over my blog and is interested in knowing more.....
ADDITIVE ALERT the wonderful Julie Eady who's book by the same name is a must read!
FED UP WITH FOOD ADDITIVES Sue Dengate has also written great books
